„Nicolae Testemitanu” State University of Medicine and Pharmacy and the Academy of Sciences of Moldova signed a collaboration agreement

”Nicolae Testemitanu” State University of Medicine and Pharmacy and the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (ASM) will intensify collaboration in the field of research and innovation in several important areas such as: mutual information, participation in research and innovation projects, joint activities to strengthen capacities to support scientific research in medicine, genetics, physiology, biochemistry, microbiology and other.

These provisions are contained in the Collaboration Agreement signed on July 15, 2024, by Nicolae Testemitanu University rector, Prof. Emil Ceban, Habilitated Doctor of Medical Sciences, corresponding member of the ASM, and President of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, academician Ion Tighineanu.

According to the document, the Parties will support fundamental and applied scientific research, the development of social partnership between higher education and research institutions, between educational structures and governmental structures, scientific organizations, business communities, etc., as well as will contribute to the promotion of scientific excellence in the work of young people, establishing links between generations by promoting science among pupils and students, interconnecting specialists in different fields and capitalizing on new opportunities for young researchers.

Rector Emil Ceban emphasized the importance of the agreement signed between the institutions, stressing that "it will open new opportunities for the development of scientific research. The agreement focuses on a sustainable partnership, in particular with the Life Sciences Division of the ASM, which supports projects in the field of medicine". The rector also mentioned that there is a possibility of signing partnership agreements with other universities that have research components. These collaborations could also be facilitated through the Council of Rectors, chaired by Professor Ceban. 

"In recent years, we have developed a fruitful collaboration with Nicolae Testemitanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy, especially during the pandemic period, when a platform for bilateral communication and interaction was initiated", Ion Tighineanu specified. The academician noted that the interinstitutional agreement would support the initiation of new multidisciplinary research projects.

Currently, two platforms focused on research in the field of medicine are created at the ASM: "Strokes" – coordinated by acad. Stanislav Groppa, vice-rector for research activity at Nicolae Testemitanu University and "SARS-CoV-2 new type coronavirus and interference with other diseases" – coordinated by acad. Eva Gudumac, University Professor at Natalia Gheorghiu Department of Surgery, Orthopedics and Pediatric Anesthesiology. Also, in 2023, the specialized commission in the field of medicine was established, led by Acad. Eva Gudumac.
